I don't get to make quilts very often because 1. I don't have enough money running around and 2. I don't need any more quilts. So my future mother in law has given me some red white and blue fabric she has. The pattern is pretty simple but it'll serve it's purpose. And none of those dreadful triangles to deal with! When I'm done piecing it together I'm going to give it back to her and she'll quilt it. After that it'll be sent off to a hospital and given to a wounded soldier.
I have learned a valuable lesson from working on this quilt, and that lesson is: triangles are hard! Wow. I had no idea. This is only the second quilt I've made, but the first one was much easier and looked so much better. That said, the quilt still looks pretty good, especially for my first quilt that's all triangles.
I hope he likes it. I know I kind of want to keep it for myself. So I survived the week from hell. I took my Biochem test, wrote my lab report, and now I'm totally ready to rock the rest of the semester. Tonight I started my final drawing series. I decided my theme would be drawings modeled after art from Dia de los Muertos.
The one on top is part of the final series, the one on the bottom was just me messing around to see if I could do it. The one intended for my final series is not finished yet, she needs a right hand and some more shading, and I'm going to color the Ipod bright red. In most Dia de los Muertos art I've seen, there's a huge contrast between the skeletons and their garish bright colored clothing, so I wanted to do that with the Ipod. It is titled "Every Day is Dia de los Muertos."And here is Paisley, dual wielding and wearing the most awesome Hello Kitty pajama pants ever to be made by hand. Yea!
Now P has something comfy to relax in. These are by far a first attempt, hopefully next time I will have a better grasp on what it is I'm doing. I need to take a better picture of these so you can see the bugs on this rockin' fabric.
The other night I was part of a Town Hall that went really well, I will post more on it later but it's bedtime for now.
I haven't posted in a while because I don't have my camera, and I think posts are better when they have pictures.
This weekend is Family Weekend at my University. It marks two years since I last saw my dad. He died just before I was going to go home for Thanksgiving. So I'm feeling a little down right now.
Can anyone help me figure out this pattern? I have bodice I, bodice II, and a skirt. I've done steps one and two. I'm not sure if in step one I was supposed to sew bodice I to bodice I and bodice II to bodice II. If I was, what step do I sew the two bodices together at? I am so confused.
Last night Sarah, Anthony (our latest name for the network assistant), and I watched Holysmoke!
It's about how Kate Winslet joined a cult and was brainwashed, and her family tries to de-brainwash her but it sort of re-brainwashes her. It was pretty terrible, I wouldn't reccomend it.Tonight we will be watching The Lathe of Heaven, based on an Ursula K. Leguin story. We shall see if it is good.
Sarah won 2nd place in our school's pictures from abroad contest in the people category, because she is awesome. I am very proud. I will post the picture here once there is a copy of it online.
Also, I believe I received an A on my molecular biology test, possibly 100%, I knew all of the content on it. I worked very hard for that grade and I have never received a grade that high on an upper division test, so I spoiled myself, or Paisley rather, today.
I almost forgot! Provolone is now my official favorite cheese!

Knitting has had a huge impact on my life. It became trendy right when I discovered I needed it the most. When my dad died and I started struggling with the stress of school, I found knitting helped me feel like I could accomplish something. Being crafty showed me that at a time when I felt like nothing was going my way, that I could make something, and make it the way I wanted to. Lately my knitting hasn't interested me as much, and that's when I discovered Blythe dolls. I know it seems ridiculous for a 20 year old to begin having an interest in dolls. (I was not very interested in them when I was younger.) But for me it's about being able to create things, to be creative, to have a muse that makes me feel like it is possible for me to accomplish something.
Among my many current projects is a Christmas stocking I've been working on for the last two years. My mom got the pattern from the woman who used to sell materials for hardanger. This is what it looks like today
After much hard work and neglect I'm quite close to finishing the detailed sewing work. I think it's coming along nicely.
In other news I bought a Blythe doll today, and I'm about to leave to see Clerks 2.
