Hi everybody. It's been a long time. I promise I've been reading all of your entries. I haven't been commenting because I feel like if I comment on one I should comment on all and I just don't have the time for that right now. I thought I was taking it easy this semester but everything just kind of exploded in my face so I'm trying really hard to figure out how to destress and give myself more time.
I changed my theme. I never thought I would change my elephants but I realized they were kind of dreary and vacant looking and my blog needed to perk up a bit. Fortunately I found another more colorful elephant layout! =D
I found a video of last year's Aparima. This is one of the two dances I will be performing this year. (It will be a different dance, but the style is Aparima). I'm psyched! The girl that the video focuses on is in the dance this year. She's amazing. One of the girls you can see in the video was my roommate for a bit freshman year, and she is a total sweetheart. I'm so glad I get to be in this dance this year and work with these amazingly talented people and learn this beautiful dance.
I hope you are all doing well. Hopefully I will find the time to update a little more often.
I am back on with the paddlefish research. It's pretty exciting. The other day I prepared the solutions I need and now I'm just waiting for the samples to arrive to run the tests. Today for work I had to apply to be able to drive Univesity vehicles. I have to pick up a guy from his hotel and take him to the seminar on the 27th for the Faith Forum. It might not be me, but it'll be good to have the ability in the future as well.
I'm going crazy waiting for my Candy Carnival. I check the mail room every day and sigh when I don't see the little green piece of paper through the window of my UC box. Paisley is waiting a little more patiently than me. Here she is saving a spot for her new friend so they can play Monopoly together.
Finals are finished. I think I did pretty good. My drawing finals ended up really great. I wish I had a scanner so I could show you just how great they are, but photographs will have to suffice.
I can't decide whether to take Networking or The Logic of Language next semester. Suggestions?
So I survived the week from hell. I took my Biochem test, wrote my lab report, and now I'm totally ready to rock the rest of the semester. Tonight I started my final drawing series. I decided my theme would be drawings modeled after art from Dia de los Muertos.
The one on top is part of the final series, the one on the bottom was just me messing around to see if I could do it. The one intended for my final series is not finished yet, she needs a right hand and some more shading, and I'm going to color the Ipod bright red. In most Dia de los Muertos art I've seen, there's a huge contrast between the skeletons and their garish bright colored clothing, so I wanted to do that with the Ipod. It is titled "Every Day is Dia de los Muertos."And here is Paisley, dual wielding and wearing the most awesome Hello Kitty pajama pants ever to be made by hand. Yea!
I voted! I promised myself I wouldn't talk about politics on here so instead I will share this. I'm not a big fan of awards shows because I think celebrities are already too self-important, so I found this to be pretty funny.
So far this week I have had to give a German presentation, write a five page story in German, and do a Biochem problem set. To go: I have a Biochem exam tomorrow and a huge Molecular Biology lab write up due on Friday. Yikes.I'm sorry I haven't posted or commented since thursday, but for "fall break" (really just a three day weekend) I went to eastern WA to finish painting my mom's fence. I had fun, and now I am tired and not quite ready to get back into making my brain work. I got some cool stuff I may share later, but I'm afraid I may have left my digital camera in Chelan or Bothell.
I find the more an assignment intimidates me, the more I tend to shy away from it until it is almost too late. I think this aspect of my personality needs some work. I can't believe we are almost through half of the semester. This year is going so fast, but I'm so ready to be done and graduated!
Last night Sarah, Anthony (our latest name for the network assistant), and I watched Holysmoke!
It's about how Kate Winslet joined a cult and was brainwashed, and her family tries to de-brainwash her but it sort of re-brainwashes her. It was pretty terrible, I wouldn't reccomend it.Tonight we will be watching The Lathe of Heaven, based on an Ursula K. Leguin story. We shall see if it is good.
Sarah won 2nd place in our school's pictures from abroad contest in the people category, because she is awesome. I am very proud. I will post the picture here once there is a copy of it online.
Also, I believe I received an A on my molecular biology test, possibly 100%, I knew all of the content on it. I worked very hard for that grade and I have never received a grade that high on an upper division test, so I spoiled myself, or Paisley rather, today.
I almost forgot! Provolone is now my official favorite cheese!
I'm starting to feel like all I use this blog for is Vox Hunt. Which isn't so bad, I suppose, but not what I'd intended originally.
I am now an official intern for the Pacific Institute for Ethics and Social Policy. When Kirsten was calculating how much they were paying it came out to be over $8 an hour and I was thinking "Woah!" But then she said that wasn't right, they should be paying me at least $10. I've never made more than $7.50. I suppose the whole college education thing is beginning to pay off. I guess since all the stuff I'm doing comes rather naturally to me it doesn't really seem like it requires qualifications, but with all the Moodle and website based work I'm going to be doing it really does require specific skills - skills that I just happen to have. So that's pretty awesome.
I'm working for the Faith Forum on Genetics. It's this big forum where we get together religious communities around Portland and discuss scientific practices and the ethical implications of them. I think it is very exciting work, and I'm very glad I got the internship because I think the work they are looking for me to do fits perfectly with my skills. It'll be cool to gain another reference, and work even further with Lisa. I think this is a win-win situation.
On top of that Lisa is going to try to pull some strings to see if I can get some more expensive toys to do my paddlefish research with. Taking it further will be so good for me.
