I don't get to make quilts very often because 1. I don't have enough money running around and 2. I don't need any more quilts. So my future mother in law has given me some red white and blue fabric she has. The pattern is pretty simple but it'll serve it's purpose. And none of those dreadful triangles to deal with! When I'm done piecing it together I'm going to give it back to her and she'll quilt it. After that it'll be sent off to a hospital and given to a wounded soldier.
I have learned a valuable lesson from working on this quilt, and that lesson is: triangles are hard! Wow. I had no idea. This is only the second quilt I've made, but the first one was much easier and looked so much better. That said, the quilt still looks pretty good, especially for my first quilt that's all triangles.
I hope he likes it. I know I kind of want to keep it for myself.I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. I am back at home in Forest Grove, so I should be catching up on your blogs and writing more in my own. Every year I have quite a few resolutions, and this year is no exception. I figure, even if you only make one of them, you're improving yourself or making yourself a little more happy. I also think they should be realistic, but no big deal if you don't keep them (all). Mine include:
- No more chips
- Only one caffeineated beverage a week
- Save a portion of each paycheck
- Craft and blog more
- No more neck cracking
- Take more pictures
Craft more is definitely winning. I tend to be more crafty during breaks though, so we'll see if it keeps up. I just finished a scarf I was making for my mom's cousin. Right now I'm sewing together a quilt for Kyle (the network assistant). (Shhh don't tell!) He just gave me an awesome Re-ment table and chairs for Paisley which she's sitting at with some friends. I'm going to make a table runner for it and decorate and then I'll take some pictures when I have good lighting.
I got an A in drawing. In the beginning of the year I promised myself if I got an A in all of my classes except drawing I would buy a Birdie Blue and if I got an A in drawing I would buy a Candy Carnival. I honestly didn't think I would achieve either of those goals. I was close to the first, but I did get an A in drawing! Now I'm not sure if I should get her. I know I need to save for books next semester and I'm not sure if I'd rather have a Birdie Blue. What do you think?
Anyway, I hope you're having lots of fun and your resolutions stick.

Knitting has had a huge impact on my life. It became trendy right when I discovered I needed it the most. When my dad died and I started struggling with the stress of school, I found knitting helped me feel like I could accomplish something. Being crafty showed me that at a time when I felt like nothing was going my way, that I could make something, and make it the way I wanted to. Lately my knitting hasn't interested me as much, and that's when I discovered Blythe dolls. I know it seems ridiculous for a 20 year old to begin having an interest in dolls. (I was not very interested in them when I was younger.) But for me it's about being able to create things, to be creative, to have a muse that makes me feel like it is possible for me to accomplish something.
