I am back on with the paddlefish research. It's pretty exciting. The other day I prepared the solutions I need and now I'm just waiting for the samples to arrive to run the tests. Today for work I had to apply to be able to drive Univesity vehicles. I have to pick up a guy from his hotel and take him to the seminar on the 27th for the Faith Forum. It might not be me, but it'll be good to have the ability in the future as well.
I'm going crazy waiting for my Candy Carnival. I check the mail room every day and sigh when I don't see the little green piece of paper through the window of my UC box. Paisley is waiting a little more patiently than me. Here she is saving a spot for her new friend so they can play Monopoly together.
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. I am back at home in Forest Grove, so I should be catching up on your blogs and writing more in my own. Every year I have quite a few resolutions, and this year is no exception. I figure, even if you only make one of them, you're improving yourself or making yourself a little more happy. I also think they should be realistic, but no big deal if you don't keep them (all). Mine include:
- No more chips
- Only one caffeineated beverage a week
- Save a portion of each paycheck
- Craft and blog more
- No more neck cracking
- Take more pictures
Craft more is definitely winning. I tend to be more crafty during breaks though, so we'll see if it keeps up. I just finished a scarf I was making for my mom's cousin. Right now I'm sewing together a quilt for Kyle (the network assistant). (Shhh don't tell!) He just gave me an awesome Re-ment table and chairs for Paisley which she's sitting at with some friends. I'm going to make a table runner for it and decorate and then I'll take some pictures when I have good lighting.
I got an A in drawing. In the beginning of the year I promised myself if I got an A in all of my classes except drawing I would buy a Birdie Blue and if I got an A in drawing I would buy a Candy Carnival. I honestly didn't think I would achieve either of those goals. I was close to the first, but I did get an A in drawing! Now I'm not sure if I should get her. I know I need to save for books next semester and I'm not sure if I'd rather have a Birdie Blue. What do you think?
Anyway, I hope you're having lots of fun and your resolutions stick.
So I survived the week from hell. I took my Biochem test, wrote my lab report, and now I'm totally ready to rock the rest of the semester. Tonight I started my final drawing series. I decided my theme would be drawings modeled after art from Dia de los Muertos.
The one on top is part of the final series, the one on the bottom was just me messing around to see if I could do it. The one intended for my final series is not finished yet, she needs a right hand and some more shading, and I'm going to color the Ipod bright red. In most Dia de los Muertos art I've seen, there's a huge contrast between the skeletons and their garish bright colored clothing, so I wanted to do that with the Ipod. It is titled "Every Day is Dia de los Muertos."And here is Paisley, dual wielding and wearing the most awesome Hello Kitty pajama pants ever to be made by hand. Yea!
Now P has something comfy to relax in. These are by far a first attempt, hopefully next time I will have a better grasp on what it is I'm doing. I need to take a better picture of these so you can see the bugs on this rockin' fabric.
The other night I was part of a Town Hall that went really well, I will post more on it later but it's bedtime for now.

Knitting has had a huge impact on my life. It became trendy right when I discovered I needed it the most. When my dad died and I started struggling with the stress of school, I found knitting helped me feel like I could accomplish something. Being crafty showed me that at a time when I felt like nothing was going my way, that I could make something, and make it the way I wanted to. Lately my knitting hasn't interested me as much, and that's when I discovered Blythe dolls. I know it seems ridiculous for a 20 year old to begin having an interest in dolls. (I was not very interested in them when I was younger.) But for me it's about being able to create things, to be creative, to have a muse that makes me feel like it is possible for me to accomplish something.
I'm moving to Portland this weekend, so I only have a couple more days to get the fence done. The section on the right I finished just in time to watch House. My sister and I are not allowed to paint the top because the neighbor is paranoid we will spill paint all over his stained side.
My kitty is the most adorable cat in the world.
My sister made a skirt for Paisley using the fabric I wanted. Very cute.
She added elephant buttons.
Today we made pasta. I liked the noodles, but the rest was not so great. I don't dig nuts with pasta, and the recipe called for walnuts, plus the chicken was cut into tiny, unrecognizable pieces. My mom thought it was a bit rich. Also, I think the pasta drying contraption looks even more silly without any noodles on it.
Still working on the stocking, it should be done fairly soon. The picture doesn't really do it justice. I'm hoping I can get it done before next friday, because that's when I move to Oregon, and I want to get it done while I still have my mom around to show me how to put it together properly.
And my other work in progress, Paisley. This hat was done in no time, and I was so happy it fit her properly. I was worried it would be too big, but it's quite snug. Right now I'm knitting bear ears onto the top.
My kitty got out somehow this morning, and we've been trying to get her back in ever since. She's always been an indoor/outdoor cat, but here in Chelan the coyotes come out at night, and we know they've been in our yard on more than one occasion. I just got her inside, so thankfully she is safe for another night.
I kind of feel like I let my mom down. She was hoping that my sister and I could help maintain the yard while we were living here over the summer. We weeded regularly, but it kind of got out of control. So she finally decided to hire landscapers to bring in tons of bark, gravel and weedwhack and such. It looks pretty fabulous, but I can't help but feel like I should have done more. I didn't do very much because I hate physical work, especially in the hot Chelan sun. In the mean time we will be painting the newly installed fence.
Tonight I made a dress for Paisley. I think it came out pretty well. The back is kind of ugly, and I wish I had thread to work with that didn't stand out so much on this fabric, but I still think she looks cute.
I am officially addicted to Blythe dolls. My favorite is a Kozy Kape. I would do just about anything for one. She is the most perfect Blythe in my opinion. I think a Kozy Kape, a Mademoiselle Rosebud, and my Asian Butterfly Encore would make up a perfect family. Of course I can't guarantee I won't fall in love with any future releases. And Birdie Blues are totally rockin' as well...
But for now, it is me and Paisley, and I love her. I can't imagine ever finding someone who no longer wants his/her Kozy, and I wouldn't want to buy one that had to be seperated from someone who loved her. So I will dream, and continue to love the doll I have.
In other news, I made a skirt that actually came out pretty well. Today I added a pocket, but it's not as quality, and I don't want to take a picture of it until I can get good lighting. So here's the most recent picture of it.
